Round trip from Skei to Vassenden and Førde From NOK 289
Skei - Vassenden - Førde -Skei.
Skei is a beautiful village located at the northeastern end of the Jølstravatnet lake, just west of the Jostedalsbreen National Park. The area was shaped by glaciers and water in constant movement. The trip starts by the Cirkle K station in the center of Skei.
“Explore Sunnfjord” are situated by the lake in the centre of Skei, and offer boat, kayak, bikes and SUP boards for rent. This is also the starting point for daily guided glaciers tours to the Haugabreen Glacier in Stardalen, Jølster, offered by “Bre og Fjell”.
The home of the famous painter Nikolai Astrup (1880 – 1928), Astruptunet, is located on the south side of the Jøstravatnet. Nikolai Astrup found inspiration and scenes for his superb works in the surrounding nature. The water that cuts through the landscape, the changing seasons and the varied light was a constant source of inspiration for Astrup. The nature in the area often has the same effect on visitors.
The bus ride along the Jølstravatnet lake is an awe inspiring experience. You can see how the colours are reflected in the water, and it is easy to see where Astrup got his inspiration.
30 minutes by bus from Skei you arrive at Vassenden, where you can rent fishing equipment, kayaks and boats at Jølvassbu Camping (www.jolvassbu.no). This is within walking distance from the bus stop: past the COOP shop, over the bridge and to the right. You can also drop in to Jølstramuseet, a private museum comprising houses as much as 400 years old.
After a 20 minute bus ride from Vassenden you arrive in Førde. Førde is a small town with cafes, restaurants, hotels and good shopping.
On the bus ride back from Førde to Skei you can lean back in your seat and process your impressions; the magnificent scenery along the Jølstravatnet lake and the adventures in Vassenden and Førde.

About our trips
This is a “Travel like the locals” tour. The tours use public transport, i.e. regular buses, ferries and boats, but we have done the planning for you so that you can concentrate on enjoying your trip. You travel on your own - there is no guide or tour leader. On most of our tours you must change several times between different buses/ferries/boats, and it is up to you to make sure you catch your connections – truly travelling like a local! (The tours are set up so that the buses, ferries and boats connect.)
Trips are not available for booking on public holidays and during holiday periods such as Easter and Christmas due to deviations in the timetables. The timetable shown is valid for the periods when the trip is bookable.
