Rosendal - Husnes - Sæbøvik/Halsnøy - Skånevik - Utåker - Rosendal.
This excursion explores the outer parts of the scenic Hardangerfjord. The bus drive takes you from Rosendal to Husnes, which has some interesting ceramic installations by Kjell Nupen, and where you can stroll besides Lake Opsangervatnet. You change buses and drive through a subsea tunnel to the village of Sæbøvik on Halsnøy island. We suggest a walk in the cosy village and a look at the marina, perhaps stopping for pastries at the bakery.
Our bus ride continues to the ruins of Halsnøy Abbey, founded by the Augustine Order in the 12th century. Guided tours are offered June–August.
From Halsnøy Abbey, there is a mile-long walk to Ranavik båtkai (quay), from which the express boat will take you to Skånevik. This charming village with its old wooden houses hosts an annual blues festival in early July. Here, too, is a popular bakery. You can also visit the little islet of Peparen or Norsk Motormuseum (open mid-June until mid-August, Tuesday-Friday, 11:00-16:00).
The final leg of our excursion comprises a ferry crossing from Skånevik to Utåker, and a bus ride along the fjord back to Rosendal.
Departure from: Rosendal kai (quay)
About our trips
This is a “Travel like the locals” tour. The tours use public transport, i.e. regular buses, ferries and boats, but we have done the planning for you so that you can concentrate on enjoying your trip. You travel on your own - there is no guide or tour leader. On most of our tours you must change several times between different buses/ferries/boats, and it is up to you to make sure you catch your connections – truly travelling like a local! (The tours are set up so that the buses, ferries and boats connect.)
Tours are not available for booking on public holidays and during holiday periods such as Easter and Christmas due to deviations in the timetables. The timetable shown is valid for the periods when the tour is bookable.
