Sandnes - (Egersund) – Sokndal - Sandnes.
The tour goes by bus or train and bus (Saturday) from Sandnes to Sokndal, situated approx. 30 km southeast of Egersund.
The municipality is part of the Magma UNESCO Geopark. Sokndal was the first municipality in the Nordic countries to become a member of the International movement of cities, Cittaslow. The idea behind the initiative is to slow down a hectic lifestyle and focus on quality of life and having a good life.
Sogndalstrand is the only village in Norway where both the wooden buildings from the 1700s and 1800s and the surrounding cultural landscape are heritage listed.
In the last few years, the village has experienced quite a boom with the development of a culture hotel, gallery, golf course, village shop, outdoor amphitheatre (Sogndalstrand Amfi), a special pier with stone sculptures on a row, sea rafting, a fishing museum and more.
In the summer, several large concerts are held in Sogndalstrand Amfi. The Sokna, a salmon river, flows into the fjord near Sogndalstrand, and is popular for fishing.
From Sokndal town center to Sogndalsstrand it’s an approx. 2 km walk.
Departure from: Sandnes bus station track 17 (Monday–Friday) or Sandnes station track 6 (Saturday)
About our trips
This is a “Travel like the locals” tour. The tours use public transport, i.e. regular buses, ferries and boats, but we have done the planning for you so that you can concentrate on enjoying your trip. You travel on your own - there is no guide or tour leader. On most of our tours you must change several times between different buses/ferries/boats, and it is up to you to make sure you catch your connections – truly travelling like a local! (The tours are set up so that the buses, ferries and boats connect.)
Trips are not available for booking on public holidays and during holiday periods such as Easter and Christmas due to deviations in the timetables. The timetable shown is valid for the periods when the trip is bookable.
