Stavanger/Sandnes - (Egersund) - Sokndal/Sogndalstrand.
You start your journey from Stavanger or Sandnes, and the destination is scenic Sokndal/Sogndalstrand. This beautiful place lies approximately 30 km southeast of Egersund.
The municipality is part of Magma UNESCO Global Geopark. Sokndal was also the first municipality in the Nordic region, which in 2003 became a member of the international movement Cittaslow. The idea was to slow down and prioritize quality of life.
Sogndalstrand is the only village in Norway where you can find wooden houses from both the 18th and 19th century. The buildings as well as the surrounding cultural landscape are preserved. During recent years, the place has had a strong upturn with establishing of a cultural hotel, art galleries, golf course, boutiques, an outdoor amphitheatre, sea rafting services and Fishery museum.
During the summer there are several big concerts at Sogndalstrand Amfi. The salmon river of Sokna has its outlet at Sogndalstrand, and is popular for fishing.
From Sokndal town centre to Sogndalstrand, there is a walk of approximately 2 km. You can return to Sandnes/Stavanger on the same day or you can travel back on the next day (if you wish to spend the night). Order a separate return trip from Sogndalstrand/Sokndal.
Departure from: Monday to Friday the journey is done by train from Stavanger or by bus from Sandnes bus station, track 6. On Saturdays the trip starts by train from Stavanger station or Sandnes station.
